Season’s Greetings from two of my main characters!
Here’s an animated GIF version:
This bedroom has been a LONG time in the making, but I’m finally happy enough with it to start setting up shots in it. (The story opens with Sara in her bed, asleep, so the bedroom is kinda important!)
Later I hope to add some info about what went into making each part of the bedroom, but for now you can just enjoy seeing it in pictures. So even though Sara appears in each of these renders, the purpose of them is to show each part of her room.
I still don’t know what Sauscony said to make Sara laugh like that, but I’m sure it was funny — and possibly a bit racy!
This was the first time I’d put the “revised” versions of each character together, and I’m much happier with how they go together now. Sauscony is sized to be around 10″, while Sara is around 5’8″.
For various reasons, I wasn’t happy with the laptop and smart phone models I already had, so I thought it would be a fun “learning challenge” to try making my own. I created the 3D models and UV maps in Cheetah3D and put the textures together in Photoshop.
After I finished working on the MacBook, I realized that the way I beveled the corners of the base is slightly different from what I did for the lid, but you can’t really see the difference unless the lid is closed all the way. Like I said, “learning challenge”!
Here are both models, lit and rendered in Poser Pro’s Firefly render engine:
When I was putting together items for the vanity in Sara’s room, I felt like something was missing, and when I finally realized what it was — a box of tissues — I decided to try making one myself in Cheetah3D.
I modeled in the “flaps” on either side and UV mapped the box so that it’s easy to apply textures to, so I’ll probably offer this as a freebie on ShareCG at some point in the future. I made the tissue texture using procedural nodes in Poser’s advanced material room, and it’s typically a bit more translucent when it’s part of the full set of Sara’s room (b/c of the lighting).
This is my main character, Sara, relaxing on her lumen pony, Cully.
And here’s a closeup of the fairy mischief happening at the base of the tree.

Sara’s Hair: Penny Hair (custom mat)
Napping fairy: Vila, in her default outfit

Sara has some opinions! Here she is with a customized version of her skin mats and her academy uniform.
Carmen with new skin textures and a few changes to her facial features.
My first test at putting a scaled down Sauscony into a scene with Sara.
I’m not yet satisfied with her wings, but this is Sauscony with much lighter skin mats and softer features.
And here’s a pin-up style version from a few months earlier:
Fenella is a professor of Lumen History at the academy who becomes Sara’s mentor and friend. It was a talk she gave at the start of Sara’s 11th grade year that inspired Sara to dig a bit deeper into the history of lumen cultural traditions.
Sara might also have a wee bit of a crush on the pretty lady 🙂
