A Frost Fairy’s Work is Never Done

… at least not until Spring!

This is one of the two winter fairy scenes that I struggled with for most of January, for a variety of reasons. I couldn’t decide what I wanted to be in the background or what camera angle to use, and my dozens of test renders were particularly slow b/c of something to do with the trees. I turned off “cast shadows” and changed the shading rate to .5 on each tree and also fiddled with various combos of light and render settings, but as long as the trees were visible in the scene, the render times remained long. I love the stylized, almost “painterly” way these trees look, esp. once I added in the frosty overlays, but I’d never again use so many of them so close to the camera!

I finally realized that all my endless “perpetual revisions” weren’t getting me any closer to what I’d originally envisioned, so I decided to just go with what I had at the moment and call it good enough!

Rendered in January 2020 in Poser Pro 11 Firefly at 4000 × 2667 pixels.
