Lumen Story WIP

About the Story

My “Lumen Story” is a young adult fantasy novel I’ve been working on for a while. The story is set in the fictional town of New Skye, Colorado, and features a somewhat reclusive community of people who are descended from the twelve families on Isle of Skye, Scotland, that were “blessed” with a special form of enlightenment. The story is set in the present, around 150 years after immigrants from Isle of Skye established the town of New Skye as well as a Sanctuary for the care of “enhanced beings.”

The main character, Sara, and her friends attend the New Skye Lumen Academy, and as the story opens Sara is determined to find a way to become comfortable adapting to the traditions of the Lumen community. But when she uncovers evidence that the traditions may be the result of misinterpretations of the past, she’s not the only one who begins to question what it means to be a Lumen.

Work in Progress

I’ve written over 150k words of planning materials, outlines, and script drafts, and at this point the story will unfold across three “books, which I plan to deliver in the form of serialized graphic novels (similar to a webcomic). I have a lifetime of experience as a writer, but I only began learning the 3D graphic skills I’ll need a few years ago, and that learning process is still very much underway.

What you’ll find below are posts in the “Lumen Story WIP” category, which mostly consist of WIP renders and may soon also contain progress updates as well as more info on settings, characters, and storyline.

I’m in no particular hurry to finish the story, as there’s so much about the world of making 3D art I’d still like to explore, in part to satisfy a lifelong pent-up desire to make art and in part to build a more comprehensive “vocabulary” that will enable me to tell the lumen story as I imagine it.
