In the musical, “Hamilton,” Burr asks Hamilton, “Why do you write like you’re running out of time?” Of all people, you, sir, should know: because life is short! And Hamilton had a LOT he needed to say.
==AMY’S NOTES==
My wife and I went to see Hamilton at the Buell Theater in Denver the other night (after having watched it on Disney+ a half dozen or so times), and during the song that line comes from, this “fan art” image popped into my head. As a writer and retired writing instructor, I can particularly relate to the urgency Hamilton must’ve felt to get his ideas onto paper!
As y ‘all know, I’m fairly new to doing portraits and still have a lot to learn, but this was a fun one to assemble b/c the parchment paper background and scattered papers were fairly obvious ideas.
I do want to point out two things for the purists out there: (1) of course I know that Alexander Hamilton was not black, but he was played by a black actor in the stage performance I saw, and this fan art was inspired by that performance; and (2) I know that this outfit is not accurate, either to the stage performance or the historical period, but it was the closest thing M4 had in his closet!
